#444 – enough said, pretty pleasing

I’m a sad, sad mouse this week. Oh so sad, so forlorn, so upset, so down, so glum. Woe is me, because, my dear dear friends, I forgot to take my little red knapsack to the bag blessing on Sunday. All that fun that I could have joined in with, I could have gone from bag to bag, sniffing out cheese sandwiches to snack on, had my bag blessed and felt like one of the congregation. I am distraught at the idea of having to wait an entire year, but I am brave, and I am handsome, and though I am small I am mighty and I shall take heart and with courage, carry on. Don’t worry about me, courage, hope, valour.

Poor Bertie, no one could ever accuse him of being a tad dramatic…

This Sunday

There is no 8am BCP this week, instead we have Revd Becky Medlicott taking the 9.30am service for us at St Paul’s. There is also an 11am at St Nick’s and 10am at Woosehill. As a reminder for the 9.30am, a lot of the choir will be travelling to Norwich to sing at Father Richard’s licensing, and there will be a J Club as we are back to weekly sessions again.

Father Richard’s licensing in Norwich, 3.30pm

For those going to the Cathedral, the service will take place in the cross aisle and everyone should have a decent view.  There are no reserved seats, so please be guided by the vergers, and there will be drinks and nibbles afterwards. Richard and Becca have both had an excellent first week in their new respective roles, and are looking forward to seeing those who can make it. They will be in the Cathedral from about 2pm ready to catch up with those who are going.

For those who cannot go, we are going to livestream the service at Woosehill Church for those who would like to watch it together.  Arrive for about 3.15pm ish, though I suspect we have more available seats than the cathedral 🙂 The Evensong service will be streamed on Sunday at 3:30 and the link for watching it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN12Viz_n1U It is also listed on our website as an event.

Excellent sermon

I read this amazing sermon, by Rev Jordan Bucey, who is a priest (pastor) in America. It was preached at the Young Clergy Women International Conference in May this year. Their passages were Ezekiel 37 (dry bones) and John 11 (Lazarus) and her sermon is excellent in and of itself, but also quite relevant for our parish as we are in a vacancy and as we deal with trees in the churchyard. It’s full of wisdom and hope, and we read it this morning at the Wednesday mid-week communion, and everyone there agreed it should be shared on Bertie!

Could you provide accommodation in Wokingham Town for a Soulscape Intern?

An 18 year old Christian young woman is coming from Weymouth to Wokingham to work as an intern for local Christian schools charity Soulscape, but is in urgent need of some accommodation!

She is hoping to get a part time job and is happy to contribute to living costs. She is also able to cook and has no dietary requirements. She does not drive so will be using public transport or walking, so somewhere close to town would be desirable.

She is planning to serve with Soulscape from September through to July. Might you be able to give her a room, for all or part of that period?

For more details please contact Nick Hudson at the Baptist Church on 0118 9787174.

Tuesday Bible Study

The Tuesday evening Zoom bible study restarted on the 10th September, where we were introduced to Paul’s letter to the Romans. If you missed the first week, don’t despair, just pop it in your diary for next week. All are welcome. Please bring a Bible along with you. Romans is full of wisdom and hope and truth, but also full of the longest sentences ever and is quite hard to read because of this! This Bible study should help us look more deeply into Romans and ultimately get more out of it when we read it or hear it in church.
