#448: The one with all the thank you’s

It’s hard to report everything with a mouthful of cheese, but I shall endeavour to do so, I take my job as church mouse very seriously. Firstly, I would like to thank Mary for bringing me back some delicious French cheese from her recent trip. It’s melt in the mouth fantastic and I couldn’t ask for a more tasty meal. Or rather, I shouldn’t ask for a more tasty meal, but quite frankly there seems to be something amiss with this spectacular cheese specimen. It is disappearing far more quickly than it should. So if anyone else would like a thank you by name then they ought to supply me with some cheese. And whoever bid on the scrummy box of crackers at the Harvest Auction, I forgive you for not sharing them with me so far. I’m sure you’ve just forgotten so consider this a gentle reminder. There were some chutneys too, they go very well with cheese. Just sayin.
This Sunday and Pews News
This Sunday we have a 9.30am Communion at St Paul’s and 11am Communion at St Nick’s. Then at 2.30pm we have a Taize service at St Nick’s for the whole parish with refreshments afterwards. If you’ve never been to a Taize service before, it is full of chants that are designed to be sung repeatedly as a way of prayer, and the whole service has a feeling of space and peace. Truly lovely, so do please put that in your diaries.
A reminder that the church office is closed until 21st October, which means that the Pews News have been printed already. This time there is the same copy of Pews News for 6th, 13th and 20th October. The insert has information about what’s going on and prayers, the leaflet contains all the services over the coming weeks. So if you picked up a Pews News on Sunday at Harvest Festival, you won’t need a new one this week. Unless of course you’ve misplaced it, recycled it, turned it into an oragami swan etc.
Thank you!
A huge thank you to the Social Committee for all their hard work on Sunday providing the Harvest Lunch. By all accounts it was delicious and very much enjoyed and appreciated. The flowers in the picture for Bertie this week are the arrangements before they went out on the tables, and looked gorgeous.
Thank you also to all those who provided items to auction, for Pippa for being our professional auctioneer, and for all those who bid on the goods to raise money.
Pastoral Visitors
A reminder that we have a pastoral visiting team who support the clergy in the parish, who would be delighted to go and see anyone who would like a visit or home communion. You might be ill and recovering at home, or unable to get to church, going through something difficult and would appreciate someone to listen and pray with and for you. If this is something you would like, please get in touch with either Revd Cara, cara.smart@spauls.co.uk, or Louise in the office, church.office@spauls.co.uk
Autumn Bazaar
The lists of items needed for the Grand Draw Hamper and Wines From Around the World will be displayed in St Paul’s and St Nicholas’ Churches from this Sunday. If you would like to donate something towards these prizes, please place your name against the item; donations can be given to me at SP and to Liz Gallagher at SN.
There will also be a bottle stall, so donations of any suitable bottles (sauces, soft drinks, not necessarily alcohol) will be gratefully received. Teri Austen
Choral Evensong, 20th October
Our Choral Evensong sermon series continues on 20th October at 6.15pm, when the Revd Ann Gibbs will be preaching for us. Her theme is “God’s Masterpiece: Living with the land” which sounds perfect for this season of Autumn and Creationtide. Get that date in the diary!
