#476: hot enough to cook a mouse

I sure am glad to be a church mouse when it’s this hot! Nipping into the lovely cool air of St Paul’s, resting in the shade, before going back outside and dipping my paws in the lovely cheese fondue I left in the sunshine. It’s a great time to be a mouse, that’s for sure.
Services tonight and Sunday
Today is the feast of Corpus Christi, a day of thanksgiving for the institution of Holy Communion, a celebration of the way in which God reaches out to us in love and we respond back. There is a service at 8pm at St Paul’s which includes Benediction, and do come along, especially if you haven’t been before. It’s also chance to join Bertie in the cool air of the church!
Then this Sunday we have a service at 9.30am at St Paul’s which includes a baptism, and 11am at St Nick’s. The organ music for St Paul’s is:
Organ prelude (ca 8’)
Handel – Andante allegro (from Concerto in B flat, op. 4, no. 6)
Anthem
Wilby – If ye love me
Voluntary
Guilmant – Grand Chœur in D major (Alla Handel), op. 18.

Please sign up at the back of church indicating if you can attend both the service and the tea afterwards. Clive Jones MP: A Year in Parliament
Clive Jones, our local MP, will be returning to All Saints Church in Wokingham on Thursday, July 3 at 7.30pm to be interviewed about his first year in Parliament. You may recall we interviewed Clive last December as part of a ‘get to know you’ session. This time the focus will be very much on the politics – so it may get a bit feisty! Any questions, just contact me directly at peter.barrett500@gmail.com. I hope you can make it. Peter Barrett, All Saints Church, Wokingham.
Lucky numbers June 2025
The Lucky Numbers draw for June took place over coffee after the 9.30 Parish Mass at St Paul’s on Sunday 8th June 2025.
Congratulations to the lucky winners:
£50 No. 91 David and Janet Charlton
£25 No. 6 Jim and Katherine Bell
£15 No. 43 David and Lesley Ruddock
£10 No. 39 Frances Self
As you know, Lucky Numbers is a monthly draw which was launched in 1997 under the title Spire 2000. Each share in the draw costs £2.00 per month and the total number of shares is unlimited, so you can apply for as many as you wish. Should you wish to take part, supporting our parish church fund for restoration and renewals work on St Paul’s church building and enjoying the chance of being a winner, please contact Tony Roberts or Liz Gallagher at St Nicholas, Emmbrook or Mary Cassidy at St Paul’s.
Tony Roberts can also be contacted by phone on 0118 9795351 or 07810 643770.
Note: Mary is looking for a volunteer to take over as St Paul’s representative. It is not an onerous task, as the draw alternates between St Nicholas’ and St Paul’s, and currently Tony takes care of the renewals and reminders. If you think this is something you could take on, do have a chat with Mary. Thank you.
