Choir visit to Chichester

The choir with Chris, Fr Richard and Bruce Ruddock at Chichester Cathedral

On Friday 17th February 2023 the choir and other members of the congregation boarded the coach for their visit to Chichester Cathedral. After a two hour journey they all went to the Cathedral to drop of their robes before a visit into town for lunch (Wagamama being one popular venue).

At 3:45 the assembled for the rehearsal and give the cathedral visitors a foretaste of the music that would be enjoyed during Evensong. They were joined by Rev Canon Bruce Ruddock who was to sing the office with them. After a full hour of rehearsal and a practice of the procession in and out, the choir retired to prepare for the service which began with organ music played by Chris Cipkin from around 5:20pm.

Evensong was a musical treat with Responses by Humphrey Clucas, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B minor by T. Tertius Noble, and culminating with ‘Let all mortal flesh keep silence’ from Edward Bairstow. Following the service everyone repaired to a local hostelry before taking the coach back to Wokingham, arriving just before 10:00pm

Anthem – Let all mortal flesh keep silent, Edward Bairstow (please note the first part of this is very quiet)
Magnificat – Setting by T.Tertius Noble
Nunc Dimittis – Setting by T.Tertius Noble
