Choir visit to Chichester
On Friday 17th February 2023 the choir and other members of the congregation boarded the coach for their visit to Chichester Cathedral. After a two hour journey they all went to the Cathedral to drop of their robes before a visit into town for lunch (Wagamama being one popular venue).
At 3:45 the assembled for the rehearsal and give the cathedral visitors a foretaste of the music that would be enjoyed during Evensong. They were joined by Rev Canon Bruce Ruddock who was to sing the office with them. After a full hour of rehearsal and a practice of the procession in and out, the choir retired to prepare for the service which began with organ music played by Chris Cipkin from around 5:20pm.
Evensong was a musical treat with Responses by Humphrey Clucas, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in B minor by T. Tertius Noble, and culminating with ‘Let all mortal flesh keep silence’ from Edward Bairstow. Following the service everyone repaired to a local hostelry before taking the coach back to Wokingham, arriving just before 10:00pm

A great day for the choir. Chichester Cathedral is such a warm and friendly place. My Jonathan remembers his four years there as a chorister very well after starting at St Paul’s.
