#528 Doesn’t Henry look shifty?

Fr Sam writes
Great work has started in the Parish Rooms: after months of preparation and hard work, the sledgehammers have been swinging in the ladies’ toilets. And not only that, but new cubicles are already in place. There’s plenty of work to be done still, but it is very exciting to see our high-quality and accessible facilities taking shape.
The work on the toilets will be a bit disruptive over the next couple of months, of course, but there will always be toilets available and by the end of the summer pilgrims will be flooding to see them from miles around!
This Sunday: my burden is light
Our first reading this Sunday is the first in a sequence of readings from St Paul’s letter to the Romans. He write about the difficulty of living a good life in a sinful world: “I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate” (Romans 7.15-25).
Our Gospel reading shows us Jesus speaking some of the most comforting lines in Scripture: “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11.16-19, 25-30).

Jubilate Deo!
On Saturday 11 July at 7pm, we will be hosting “Jubilate Deo!”, a concert in celebration of 500 years of sacred music.
St Paul’s Choir, Louise and Christopher would like to invite you to an evening of popular choral anthems and organ music spanning the last 500 years. This promises to be a fantastic evening of music followed by fellowship and refreshments in true St Paul’s fashion! Please bring your friends and family. Donations will go towards the St Paul’s choral foundation and organ funds.
Flyers for this concert will be available at church on Sunday – do take one (or more) and put it up or distribute it to your friends!

Venezuela appeal
Following the earthquake this week, we are holding the people of Venezuela in our prayers. After the services this Sunday, we will be taking a collection for the DEC emergency appeal. If you wish to give online, you can do so through the DEC website.

This week’s calendar: do not doubt but believe
On 3 July, the Church remembers Thomas the Apostle, one of the Twelve, who is best known for his honest struggle to believe in the risen Christ. His famous moment comes when he says he will not believe unless he sees and touches the wounds of Jesus. But when Christ appears to him, Thomas responds with one of the clearest confessions of faith in the New Testament: “My Lord and my God!”
Thomas reminds us that doubt doesn’t have to be the enemy of faith: it can become the place where deeper trust is born.
