#529 Change is gonna come

Fr Sam writes

More excellent progress has taken place in the Parish Rooms, with the ladies’ toilet now fully operational. The Brownie group that uses the Parish Rooms provided the first feedback: “Woooo, this is so much nicer!” This feedback is, in my opinion, very accurate!

Work on the men’s and disabled toilets is coming soon. Many thanks to those who have made it happen.

I also need to thank Lyn Austen, who has been the parish treasurer for many years now. He has decided that he wishes to stand down from the role, and so we need to find someone to take up that mantle.

Lyn has prepared a very helpful description of what the treasurer does. Do take a look and see if that could be you. Or maybe you would be willing to help with an aspect of the parish finances? Many hands make light work, so it would be good to have a team of people able to contribute.

If you are interested in being involved, or would like to know more, please do speak to me in person, give me a call (07440 338056) or email me and I would be very happy to speak about it with you.

This Sunday: let them grow together

Our first reading this Sunday is more from Romans 8, where St Paul teaches about our identity as adopted children of God, and about the fundamental Christian virtue of hope (Romans 8.12-25).

Our Gospel reading is the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, with its teaching about judgement, patience and hope (Matthew 13.24-30, 36-43).

Fr Tony Kemp RIP

Last week we heard of the sad death of Fr Tony Kemp, formerly associated with our parish.

His family has established a website where you can find an obituary, photographs, and information about his funeral.

Can you be bothered?

This Sunday is the next in our sermon series on the Seven Deadly Sins. Revd Wes Hampton, Methodist minister at Woosehill and Rose Street Methodist Church, will be preaching on Sloth.

The service is at 6.15 and is followed by refreshments.

August Organ Recital

On Sunday 16 August our organist, Christopher Cipkin, will be giving an organ recital at St Paul’s. The recital will cover 300 years of music from England and North America by Burney, SS Wesley, WT Best, Darke, Carter, Bédard, and Groom te Velde.

Retiring collection for the organ fund. Refreshments will be served at the end of the concert.

This week’s calendar: the Apostle to the Apostles

On 22 July, the Church celebrates St Mary Magdalene, the first witness to the Resurrection. Healed of seven demons by Jesus, she followed him through his ministry, supported him with money and practical help, was faithful to the Cross, and greeted him on Easter morning. Then she took the good news of the Resurrection to the other disciples, earning her the title Apostle to the Apostles.

Mary Magdalene gives us an inspirational image of transformation and hope through an encounter with Jesus Christ.
